Today’s sees the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States of America. Donald J. Trump will complete his unlikely comeback – certainly a case study in resilience. The risk management community will need to turn conventional wisdom on its head. Let’s pretend that climate change does not exist, de-regulation is good for the economy and will not destabilize the system, DEI is unnecessary and putting yourself first is the norm.
Santander Considers UK Exit
It is understood that Santander is at an early stage of a process that could see it sell its UK ringfenced bank. Low returns, high costs and the possibilities of a large compensation bill for car loan sales have all contributed to this state of affairs. Furthermore, the bank is looking at freeing up resources to invest in the US.
Tennessee Drops BlackRock Suit
Tennessee has decided to drop is ESG suit against BlackRock. The state had accused the asset manager of breaching consumer protection laws and making inconsistent decisions. An agreement has been reached where BlackRock will explain its investment decisions and commit to avoiding co-ordination with other investors where ESG matters are concerned.
