The Social Mobility Foundation has called on the two financial services regulators to require mandatory reporting on employees’ socio-economic background. The Foundation argues that increasing socio economic diversity is good for growth, risk taking and serving consumers better. It is proposing that reporting should be based on parents’ employment. At present 90 per cent of staff are thought to come from higher socio-economic classes.

Called for Paid Whistleblowers

The Royal United Services Institute has called for UK whistleblowers to be rewarded. This call echoes the thoughts of the Serious Fraud Office. It recognizes that morals are not the only drivers for making reports. The US has had a reward system for a long time with 0.5 per cent of SEC whistleblowers receiving a payout.

St. James Ditches Glitz

One of the world’s largest wealth managers, St. James Place, has announced that it will be dispensing with its glitzy corporate events. Its annual staff gatherings and Spring sports events will be dispensed with. Instead, the annual gathering will now become a virtual affair run from the O2 arena.
